Hi! My name's Sonali and I'm a journalist and brand strategist. I strive to tell stories that bring clarity to complex ideas and create a deeper connection between people and the world around them.

Before the Byline

The first time I stepped into journalism was the summer before my senior year of high school, when I explored New York City’s music scene through a New York Times program. I attended indie concerts in small venues and learned how to translate sound into story. That experience stayed with me.

From Copy to Craft

At the University of Texas, my work expanded from music journalism into hard news reporting at The Daily Texan, where I focused on science and research. At the same time, through SPARK Magazine — first as a writer and later as an editor — I stayed deeply connected to the arts and youth-focused storytelling.

As an editor, my perspective widened in a different way. I experienced my peers’ lived realities through their writing, stepping into worlds and moments that were resonant yet not poignant. I was constantly learning about people, perspective and the range of human experience.

That duality shaped how I think. The responsibility of making complex, vital information accessible, while still holding space for creativity and expression.

If you’re into the details, my resume has the full story.
